25 Freebies

I got an MP3 player for Melanie last year; I'm content with my CD player, as I prefer albums over playlists. It came with a coupon for 25 free downloads. Several months later, I have finally downloaded my 25th freebie. With just a few exceptions, I went for extreme nostalgia (as opposed to my CD collection, which is almost all music that is new to me). Artists that weren't available that I would have liked to download include The Beatles ("Dear Prudence"), Steve Miller ("Fly Like an Eagle", "Keep On Rockin' Me"), and Zeppelin ("When the Levee Breaks", which is only the greatest rock song ever). Note that I was born in 1967, which makes it surprising that there isn't more 80's music on here. Okay, not so surprising.

MP3s for February 21

I've been busy with work and getting ready for our China trip - two weeks from tomorrow!. FYI, I dropped out of City of Heroes this week after getting Scum Hunter up to lvl 40 (the monotony overtook my interest in the storylines); whether that means more time for posting remains to be seen.

As for my top 100 blog, I'm stuck on trying to word the next one just right. I know, it's still going to come out crappy. In the meantime, here are a couple of free MP3s for you to check out:

Callisto - Worlds Collide: I've been getting more into "noisecore" lately, so when I talk about bands like Neurosis and Isis, this will give you a sense for it. This song sounds a lot like Isis in particular. For more noisecore, check out this Cult of Luna video.

Wolverine - Towards Loss: Awful band name, I know. This is the first I've heard of them. Think of a cross between Kansas and Queensryche, with a few sprinkles of brootality thrown in for good measure. I'd check out their full lengths, but the themes throw me off (child abuse, etc.), and the reviews mention there being more slow songs.
